La Spinetta Pin Monferrato Rosso (Nebbiolo, Barbera D’Asti Bionzo) Piedmont 2012
For the month of July, RARE’s wine team has been focusing on wines coming from the Piedmont region in Italy. Piedmont is located in the northwestern corner of Italy, and borders France and Switzerland at the foot of the Alps. This region is best known for producing wines from the Nebbiolo grape, which includes Barolo and Barbaresco. This week, we chose to highlight Pin from the La Spinetta winery.
Pin is “a juicy luscious and complex core of raspberry, boysenberry and mulled currant fruit,” as noted on the La Spinetta website. It pairs well with red meat and strong cheeses – a perfect type of wine for RARE to keep in-house given our delicious meat offerings and house-made cheeses.
FUN FACT: this delicious red is named in honor of Giuseppe “Pin” Rivetti, the founder of La Spinetta winery in 1977. In 1989, the sons of Giuseppe named one of their first red blends “Pin” to honor their father.
